This service is to assist individuals with disabilities or special needs in completing daily living activities and promoting their independence. This service may include help with tasks such as bathing, dressing, meal preparation, and mobility support. Personal support can be provided in the individual’s home or community settings to enhance the person’s ability to live a more independent life. In Florida, personal support services offered by the Medicaid waiver agencies must comply with AHCA regulations to ensure the delivery of high-quality care tailored to the unique needs of each individual.
This service consists of non-medical care, supervision, and socialization activities provided to an adult on a one-on-one basis or in groups not to exceed three recipients. The service must be provided in direct relation to the achievement of the recipient’s goals as outlined in their support plan. A companion provider may also assist the recipient with such tasks as self-care needs, meal preparation, laundry, and shopping. The service provides access to community-based activities that cannot be provided by natural or other unpaid support.
This service is generally used due to a brief planned or emergency absence, or
when the primary caregiver is available, but temporarily physically unable to care
for or supervise the recipient for a brief period of time. Respite care is a service that provides supportive care and supervision to
recipients under the age of 21 years when the primary caregiver is unable to
perform the duties of a caregiver.
